Course Description

Respiratory Protective Equipment, also know as "RPE", is a form of personal protective equipment designed to protect the wearer from a variety of airborne hazards in the form of Gas, Mists, Fumes, Dust or Vapors.

A Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) also referred to as a Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) , a Supplied Air Breathing Device (SABA), or simply a Breathing Apparatus (BA) is a wearable devise worn by Fire, Rescue and other professions that may require the need for immediate supplied air.
These devices are designed to provide breathable air when in environments that pose Immediate Dangerous to Life or Health (IDHL) atmosphere.

Course Content
​
This course will ensure participants understand the regulations and best practices governing the requirements, procedures, selection, use and care of all related equipment. The course has been developed to meet industry standards and fully complies with all Federal, Provincial and Territorial regulations.
​
The course is designed to enhance workers competency and comfort level with the donning/doffing, selection, use and care of Respiratory Protective Equipment.
​
Sections covered in this course consists of a theory portion that involves topics such as:
- Relevant OH&S guide lines
- Types of (RPE) Respiratory Protective Equipment available in the work place
- Selection of appropriate RPE based upon hazard assessment
- Atmospheric testing requirements
- Hazard assessment
- Intended use & limitations of each class of respirator
- Pre & Post use inspection requirements
- Propper storage & maintenance
- Correct donning & doffing procedure
- Qualitive and quantitative fit testing, (can be added)
The course will also involve a practical portion completed by each participant to ensure competency in Pre & Post use inspection requirements as well as correct usage of the Respiratory Protective Equipment applicable to their workplace.
